way we current editors, understand it, The Public Journal was conceived sometime in the sophomore year of Jonah and Dylan (all '06), in the lush red rooms of 109 Llenroc. Cornell being cool, it wasn’t so hard to pull the thing together. They got some money from the guys that give clubs money, they found a great digital publishing service, wrestled InDesign to the ground, did some editing with wine and smokes, and WOW they made the best publication this beloved farm school had ever seen. UT!
The real reason why it was so GOOD was the whole idea behind it. Sick of the literary magazines with
recycled Creative Writing 181 assignments, they knew there was more! They wanted to write what they wanted! They wanted to rocket into the cosmos of their insides! And call others to do the same! They knew we had them: Obsessions! Confessions! Nothing-But-The-Truth!
S
o,
we are a book for writing that is simple and true. Full to the brim of the delight and madness of You and Me and US
, bumping and gliding through the quad-paths of Cornell. Our lives as we really walk them, huff and puff them, are beautiful, dangerous things that we are madly in love with. Secretly and tragically. Let it go. Transform self-consciousness into self-awareness. Uncurl your fingers and let the truth of your insides bloom. Prick your world of tired and tried, self-conscious expression. Watch it bleed, watch bright light pour out. It’s amazing. We will now know what we are made of.
