Dear Reader,
We are currently expanding. The Public Journal is now published at
Cornell University, Tufts University
, University of Michigan, Bates College, and it is currently brewing at Fairfield University, as well. If you would like to start a branch of The Public Journal in your area, please contact us. We will kiss you on the electric face. * ANGELICA ZAMUDIO ‘08 It all started when I moved into my very own apartment sophomore year of college with two other friends, the lovely Tricia (above mentioned) and our other PJ lover friend, Umi. Tricia and Umi discovered the PJ first and then shared the magic with me. They invited me to come along to a PJ meeting for newbies that was to be held in Goldwin Smith, the hall at Cornell where all the English majors keep it real. On that glorious day, I met a lot of other nervous, but very cool, first time PJers, and most importantly, the famous Jonah Green and Dylan Greif, and our (Tricia and myself) future mentors Erin Geld and Maria Adelmann (although I do believe that Maria did not attend that meeting probably because she had some other fabulous thing to do). After that one meeting, I was sold. I wanted to be involved in whichever way possible. I fell in love with the idea of The Public Journal for various reasons, but one of the most salient was that it offered me a reprieve from all the hatred I was brewing up because of my current life at Cornell. I must say that I was one of those freshmen who almost transferred out of Cornell. Cornell did not make me happy. It was all a big change from my life in California and I was ready to call it quits and go back to my comfort zone. Although I cannot give all the credit to the PJ, it sure did help me make my decision to stay. I was glad that I had found a project that I was interested in becoming a part of at Cornell. I had dabbled in other Cornell shindigs, but this suited me best due to its emphasis on providing a raw and very honest outlet for Cornell students. I also loved the art and design aspectsI mean, it pretty much made me warm inside, which is a feeling I was lacking at Cornell. So, the story ends with me staying at Cornell, working on The Public Journal, loving it, and pretty much being a happy camper. Hoorah! I made it!
